May 8, 2008 Meeting Minutes
1. Meeting was called to order at 4:07 at the Somesville Fire Station Meeting Room
2. Attendance - Public Works Director Tony Smith, Police Chief Jim Willis, Jean Fernald, Sydney Roberts Rockefeller, Kathy Fernald, Phyllis Partridge, Dianne Young
3. Approved minutes of last meeting with a quorum, May 10, 2007
4. Regular Business
A. How can we become a committee that meets as scheduled? The members discussed different ways to invite new committee members, focusing on those who are likely to attend regularly. Some members have lists used for other solicitations they will consult. The group discussed the frequent lack of quorum at these meetings and agreed that more members should be recruited.
B. Election of Officers - Chair - Tony Smith, Secretary - James Willis
Tony Smith and Jim Willis indicated they are non voting members of the committee; they attend meetings as town staff members who are there for consulting with. The citizen members are the voting members.
C. Member Concerns - Sydney had a copy of a traffic study referred to as the Palmer/ Gorrill report which was completed several years ago. Because of time constraints the discussion was tabled until the next meeting.
D. Discussed a citizen question from a few months back about why the sign at the intersection of Summit Road and Main St. in Northeast Harbor is a Yield sign instead of a stop sign. Jim Willis said a review of the ordinance indicated that a Yield sign is what is supposed to be there, not a stop sign, it's not a change within the ordinance.
E. Traffic Ordinance Update - Jim Willis said the committee's most recent recommendations had been acted on by the board and the Ordinance is being updated to reflect them.
F. Any other business - A discussion about commuter traffic (AM and PM) enforcement in Somesville took place. Jim Willis will ask the patrol officers to address the concerns.
